In 2011 Casuarina Senior College established a Centre for Excellence in Medicine and Health Sciences. Following the success of this Centre for Excellence pathway, in 2017 the College introduced an additional pathway for students: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The Centre for Excellence provides differentiated learning opportunities for high ability students.
Both pathways contain specialised courses offering students opportunities for enrichment and acceleration.
As part of the Personal Learning Plan, students begin to plan for their future by researching options in work, training and further study, students will also participate in a work experience program.
Acceleration of students in the first and second year of the program gives students the flexibility to complete additional courses or to reduce workload to maximise success.
Both pathways provide students with highly qualified staff with specialist expertise and a commitment to success. Students have the opportunity to complete their secondary education in the company of peers with similar aspirations, motivations and interests.
All Centre for Excellence students are encouraged to participate in relevant extra-curricular activities and are provided with opportunities to engage with external organisations including Charles Darwin University, Flinders University, P-TECH, Menzies School of Health Research, Power and Water Corporation, Territory Generation and Advanced Manufacturing Alliance.
Students from both pathways are also given the opportunity to be part of a trip to Perth at the end of their second year where they experience university life and explore the courses offered at Curtain University, Edith Cowan University, University of Western Australia and Murdoch University.
